Good afternoon, dear scientists! This is the Academy of Articles. We're continuing our series on publications that will soon lose their Scopus indexing. The previous article was very helpful for many of you, and we've once again analyzed the publications at risk.

This time, we present you with a list of two publications that are currently indexed in Scopus, but, according to our observations, violate all the rules and requirements of the Scopus database for scientific publications and will soon be excluded from the database.

Magazines:

  • International Journal of Religion — The first edition was accepted by Scopus in December 2023. It was welcomed, as religion is a very narrow niche, but after acceptance, the journal began accepting all articles from the social sciences.

List of violations for which a journal will likely be excluded from the database:

  • The journal has seen a remarkable increase in the number of published articles over the past five months. It has now published over 600 articles.

No peer review. Articles are accepted 10 days in advance without any review. They are published on the website within a month. The cost of publishing one article is $700.

ResultCurrently, only the first three issues of 2024 are indexed. The fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh issues are not indexed and likely will not be. The journal will likely be removed from the index within the next few months.

List of violations:

  • A very sharp increase in the number of published articles and issues. In 2024, the journal has already published seven issues with 25-40 articles each. The articles have not undergone any peer review, so it is highly likely that articles for 2024 will not be indexed. Lack of peer review.
  • Lack of peer review.

Popular publications among Ukrainian scientists that are currently excluded from Scopus, although the site shows that they are actively indexed:

Result: Unfortunately, these journals published many Ukrainian scientists and many articles, some of which, unfortunately, will not be indexed. Below is the official response from Scopus stating that the journals are no longer indexed in Scopus, and any unindexed content will not be indexed.

Conclusions:

Our team has presented you with two publications that we predict will soon be excluded from the Scopus database, as well as three publications that have already been excluded. We understand that the offer of rapid publication is always attractive to our colleagues, but dear scientists, we urge you to be more careful when choosing a publication or an intermediary offering rapid publication in an indexed journal. As you can see from our analysis, the Academy of Articles carefully selects the publications it partners with to avoid jeopardizing its clients. We strive to promote this issue so that more Ukrainian scientists will be more careful about where they publish their articles and their choice of intermediary. Don't fall for the temptation to quickly publish for little money, as this will always backfire. Follow our column to stay up-to-date with all the news and stay safe. Soon, we will present you with a new list of publications that will soon lose their indexing in Scopus. Until next time!
