On Friday evening, August 8, 2025, Scopus published updated indexing data for scientific journals. The Academy of Articles team prepared this list over the weekend so you'll be the first to know about the changes and be wary of excluded journals.
In the July update, four journals were officially excluded. The reasons were questionable editorial quality and so-called outlier behavior. By this term, Scopus defines "abnormal journal behavior"—when a journal's metrics or editorial processes significantly deviate from generally accepted standards. This can include: a sharp spike in citation counts, massive cross-citations between journals, excessive self-citations, and abnormal growth in publication volume.
Such deviations often signal possible manipulation of metrics or violations of editorial ethics, etc.
These cases prove once again: Even well-known journals that have been indexed for many years are not immune to sudden loss of status due to questionable editorial practices, citation manipulation, or other violations that Scopus uncovers during audits.
