Some facts about Scopus
1. The Scopus system began its work in 2004. Its permanent owner is Elsevier.
2. The database was created as an alternative to Web of Science.
3. In total, the Scopus database includes 18 thousand publications, including those on technical disciplines, medical sciences and the humanities.
4. Not only scientific journals are indexed, but also published conference materials and serial publications.
5. In Scopus, journals are divided into quartiles. There are 4 quartiles in total.
Q1 is the highest indicator, and the most reputable foreign journals belong to it;
Q2 - this also includes elite publications and reputable magazines, but they do not reach the importance of Q1;
Q3 is the middle ground, the well-known magazines belong to it;
Q4 is the lowest quartile, but it also gives a scientist a chance to be featured in a reputable scientific publication Scopus.
Scopus Journal Percentiles
The term "percentile" refers to a measure in which the percentage of total values is equal to or less than the measure. For example, 90 percent of the data values are below the 90th percentile. Or 10 percent of the data values are below the 10th percentile. As for quartiles, these are values that divide the data table into four parts. This is a general notation for concepts. Now let's consider it in relation to the Scopus database.
1) 25% — Q1, 1st quartile, 99-75 percentiles;
2) 25% — Q2, II quartile, 74-50 percentiles;
3) 25% — Q3, III quartile, 49-25 percentiles;
4) 25% — Q4, IV quartile, 24-1 percentiles.
If you take this diagram into account, then it is not so difficult to navigate the structure of the Scopus database.
