Scopus has released its latest database update\u2014and March turned out to be a record month in terms of the number of journals removed.<\/strong><\/p>

Sixteen magazines. <\/b>All at once. From different countries, covering different topics, and with varying levels of \u00abauthority.\u00bb.<\/p>

Among them are publications from Greece, Jordan, Slovenia, Nigeria, Iraq, Italy, the United States, and other countries. Journals on philosophy, medicine, cybersecurity, mycology, computer science, signal and image processing, surgery, and antennas.<\/p>

Important to note: <\/b>Among those excluded are publications from major players such as Springer Nature and Wiley.<\/b> It\u2019s important to realize that even a prestigious publisher is no guarantee of permanent indexing.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Magazines We Didn't Predict\u2014and Why It Matters<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

In the section \u00abJournals at Risk of Being Removed from Scopus,\u00bb we systematically analyze publications that show signs of risk. We had not previously reviewed any of the 16 journals included in the March update.<\/p>

This proves one simple thing: monitoring cannot cover all journals at the same time. Some publications disappear quietly\u2014without public warnings or high-profile scandals. One day, the database is updated\u2014and the journal is gone.<\/b><\/p>

But when we issue a warning\u2014we\u2019re spot on. <\/b>Between 2024 and 2026, 37 of the 44 journals we featured in our \u00abCandidates for Delisting\u00bb section were officially removed. Accuracy \u2014 84%.<\/b> The highest rate among teams that monitor scientific journals.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Sixteen journals in a single month<\/span><\/b>\u2014this isn\u2019t just a record for the sake of a record. It reflects how Scopus continues to purge its database of journals that no longer meet standards or have simply ceased publication.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>

Twelve journals have been designated as \u201cDiscontinuation\u201d\u2014they no longer exist as active publications. Four more\u2014designated as \u201cJournal Change Policy\u201d\u2014have changed their editorial policies to such an extent that Scopus cannot confirm their compliance with its criteria.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

What this means in practical terms for virtually every author:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
