Journals that will soon lose their indexing in Scopus, part 3

Article

Good afternoon, dear scientists! The Academy of Articles continues our series on publications that will soon lose their Scopus indexing. The previous two articles were very helpful for many of you, and this is the third time we've analyzed the publications at risk.

Several journals we previously covered have already been removed from Scopus. Here's a list of these publications:

  1. Review of Economics and Finance

  2. Journal of Higher Education: Theory and Practice

  3. Azerbaijan Pharmaceutical and Pharmacotherapy Journal

  4. REVISTA DE GESTIO SOCIAL E AMBIENTAL

Scopus recently underwent a major purge, delisting 28 journals. Details can be found here. Here.

So, this time we'll look at two journals that are at risk of being removed from Scopus:

Let's start with the first edition - Journal of Infrastructure, Policy and Development.

Recently, we've been receiving numerous emails from this publication inviting us to publish and review quickly. We decided to check this publication out, as the publication fee is quite substantial—12,00$.

The first thing that was noticed was a sharp increase https://a-articles.com/ua/spisok-zhurnalov-isklyuchennyh-iz-scopus-za-maj-2024-goda/ The number of issues has increased from three in 2023 to six in the past six months. The first three issues contain approximately 30-40 articles, which is within the norm for Scopus publications. Issue 4 has already raised the bar to approximately 50 articles per issue, and Issue 5 has seen a sharp increase, publishing a whopping 90 articles. Issue 6 contains 112 articles, and it's not closed yet, with new articles being published.

As the screenshot from the Scopus database shows, the number of publications this year is almost four times higher than last year (not including the 112 articles that have not yet been indexed). This is a serious signal for the RADAR system, which, when such an increase in publications occurs, immediately stops indexing a journal in Scopus and alerts the journal oversight committee to review the publication.

If the publication continues this policy, it will inevitably lead to the exclusion from the index of all articles published in 2024.

We advise caution when choosing such publications, as the publication fee is considerable. The publication has announced that the price will reach 1800$ starting July 1. According to our estimates and forecasts, the publication will be delisted from Scopus within 2-4 months, and articles from 2024 will be completely excluded from the index.

We strongly advise against publishing articles in such a publication, even if the timeframe for rapid publication is very attractive, as deleting an article from the index will cause even more problems and significant loss of funds.

Now let's move on to the second edition, which we will be talking about today - International Journal of Intelligent Systems and Applications in Engineering.

We also received numerous emails from this publication offering quick publication for 600 euros, so we decided to check it out. The publisher, Auricle Global Society of Education and Research, had previously done something similar with the journal. Educational Administration: Theory and Practice, which was removed from Scopus in May. This is unsurprising, as the journal, which charges $1,000 per article, published over 1,000 articles in six months, all of which were removed from the Scopus database.

Academy of Articles I'm ready to help - follow the link link and leave a request on the website.

Magazine International Journal of Intelligent Systems and Applications in Engineering was accepted into Scopus in 2021. It was published four times a year. After its acceptance in 2022, three additional special issues were immediately released, but this is less critical than what happened next. In 2023, the journal published 15 issues, 11 of which were special issues, publishing a total of 1,027 articles. And in 2024, in just seven months, the journal has already published 25 issues and over 1,500 articles. The screenshot shows the dynamics from the Scopus database.

Many of you are probably wondering how the journal continued to be indexed in Scopus if it published 1,027 articles in 2023. Currently, it has over 1,500 articles, of which almost 901 TP3T are indexed in Scopus. The secret lies in the fields in which the journal is indexed. Computer science and engineering are the technical fields most favored by the Scopus database. Typically, decent journals in these fields publish 1,000-2,000 articles per year, and this is the norm for the Scopus database. Therefore, they have adjusted their RADAR system to be less sensitive to the large number of published articles in these fields. But this won't last forever. This journal will definitely be reviewed by the Journal Oversight Committee and will be excluded from the database. Articles from 2023 and 2024 with 1,001 TP3T are likely to be excluded from the Scopus database.

Conclusions:

This time, we've once again shown you two publications that we predict will soon be excluded from Scopus. As you can see from our previous articles and exclusions, our predictions are coming true. Some of the publications we covered are still indexed, but it's only a matter of time. We'll let you know as soon as they're excluded.

We understand that the offer of rapid publication is always attractive to our colleagues, but, dear scientists, we urge you to exercise caution when choosing a publication or an intermediary offering rapid publication in an indexed journal. As our analysis shows, the Academy of Articles carefully selects the publications it partners with to avoid putting its clients at risk. We strive to promote this issue so that more Ukrainian scientists will be more careful about where they publish their articles and their choice of intermediary. Don't be tempted by quick publication times for little money, as this will always lead to problems. Follow our column to stay up-to-date with all the news and avoid putting yourself at risk.

We'll soon be presenting a new list of publications that will soon lose their Scopus indexing. Until next time!
