Good afternoon, distinguished scientists! This is Vasily Malets, Director of the Academy of Articles.
Today, I present to you the final installment of this year's beloved column, "Scopus Delisting Contenders." We launched this column in April 2024, and I'm delighted that it has quickly become popular among Kazakhstani scholars. I sincerely thank you for regularly writing to us with requests to review publications you believe are at risk of being excluded from Scopus.

If you'd like to learn how to analyze journals in Scopus the way we do, our online webinar on "Webinar Topic" will be held tomorrow at 7:00 PM Kazakhstan time. I look forward to seeing you there!

Of these:
- 7 have already lost indexation,
- 6 are under investigation and will be excluded soon,
- In 3 excluded journals, articles were completely removed from the Scopus database.
So, in our final part, we will look at 3 journals that are on the verge of being excluded from Scopus.
The first magazine on our list.
In fact, this magazine is not as bad as those we wrote about in previous articles, such as International Journal of Religion or Journal of EchohumanismHowever, this magazine came to the attention of the Radar system.
Magazine characteristics:
- Q1 - literature, Q2 - philology/linguistics.
- Accepted into Scopus in 2021.
Main violations:
- Increase in the number of published articles per year.
- Increase in the number of special issues in 2023-2024.
- Early publication (the journal has already published 2 issues for 2025).
- Significant increase in the publication fee over the past year (from 800 to 1500 $).
Current status:
The journal is currently under review by the CSAB Journal Advisory Board, and articles published in it will not be indexed until the review is completed. The review is expected to be completed in January.
Conclusion:
This journal has a 50% chance of being reviewed by Scopus, as double-blind peer review was indeed conducted. There is a 95% probability that articles indexed in 2023 and 2024 will not be removed from the Scopus database, even if the journal is excluded.
Magazine characteristics:
- Profile: multidisciplinary, Q4.
- Accepted into Scopus: 2023.
- Increasing the number of issues (from 4 to 12 per year).
- A large number of special issues.
- Increase in the number of paid articles.
- Early publication of issues (the journal is already publishing the May 2025 issue).
- A very large number of articles in the "Accepted Articles" section (at the time of writing this article, more than 100 articles were posted in this section on the site).
Magazine characteristics:
- Main profile: engineering and nanotechnology - Q4.
- Accepted into Scopus: 2009.
- Significant increase in the number of issues (from 3 per year to 21 in 2024).
- The number of articles increased from 15 per year (2009-2023) to more than 1000 in 2024.
Conclusions:
Dear colleagues, today I shared with you an analysis of three journals that will soon lose their indexing in Scopus.
Next year, our "Contenders" column will be published every two months. We also plan to launch a video version of our column and will continue to refine our publication analysis methods to alert you to risky journals as early as possible. Thank you for staying with us!
Sincerely,
Vasily Malets, Director of the Academy of Articles
