On Thursday, December 11, Scopus has published a new database update, and it has become one of the most resonant of the entire 2025.
8 journals have been removed from the database, and their analysis shows: Scopus' algorithms are becoming increasingly stringent, and the risks for authors continue to grow.

Analytical conclusions
The December Scopus update confirmed:
The risk of losing indexation is higher today than ever before.
Particularly indicative is the case c Forum for Linguistic Studies:
– more than 500 Kazakhstani authors lost indexed articles;
– the journal was excluded after long-term suspicions of editorial violations;
– the warnings of the Academy of Articles were fully confirmed.
Scopus continues its rigorous database cleanup, focusing on:
- abnormal citation;
- failures in reviewing;
- the opaque policy of publishers.
What does this mean for authors?
⚠️ Publications in excluded journals do not count during PhD defense;
⚠️ Articles can disappear completely from Scopus;
