Official List, Current Status, and Risks for Authors
The December 2025 Scopus update turned out to be one of the most talked-about updates of the past year: 16 journals were designated as "Discontinued," and one more was discontinued unofficially.
Magazines from our «Candidates for Removal» list that have been officially dropped
The December update confirmed the risks for two journals, which Academy of Articles I had previously warned in the section «Candidates for Exclusion from Scopus»:
International Journal of Basic and Applied Sciences
— took apart In Issue No. 11 (inconsistent practices, risks related to editorial policy).
Journal of Cultural Analysis and Social Change
— analyzed in Issue No. 12 as a journal with a high probability of being deindexed.
In previous updates, we have already addressed:
37 of 41 magazines, the risks of which we had warned about in the «Contenders» section, have been officially removed from Scopus.
December only confirmed the trend: Risky magazines get pulled from circulation sooner or later.

⚠️ Unofficial list (a journal that has effectively lost its indexing status)
We record separately the journal entry in which the following is recorded: the effective loss of indexation, The journal has been removed from the active Scopus source database:
E-ISSN: 2589-1316
Publisher: Lectito
Status: De facto loss of indexing (the journal is not listed in Scopus as an active source).
We previously warned about this journal in «Candidates for Exclusion from Scopus,», Issue No. 12.
https://www.scopus.com/sourceid/21101151828
As far as the author is concerned, it makes no difference whether it's an official discontinuation or a «quiet» deindexing:
If the journal is not indexed, the publication is not valid for thesis defense, evaluation, and grants.
Analytical conclusions
The December Scopus update highlights several important trends:
1. Scopus is tightening its controls
Publishers with opaque policies, expedited peer review, or suspicious citation practices are under constant scrutiny.
2. Some magazines are «pulled» without any official announcements
Authors often find out about deindexing after the fact—when the article no longer appears in the database.
3. Risk forecasting is becoming critically important
Our data confirms that analyzing a journal’s metrics, peer-review practices, and behavior makes it possible to predict its removal long before the database is officially updated.
4. Loss of indexing = loss of results
A publication in a high-risk journal may cost:
– an unpublished article;
– problems with evaluation or defense;
– wasted time;
– recurring costs associated with a new publication.
What should authors do?
✔️ Always check the journal's indexing status before submission
Do not rely on the journal's website; rely solely on the latest data from Scopus.
✔️ Analyze the publication's history and performance
Sudden spikes in the number of publications, a change in publisher, or a suspiciously quick peer review are red flags.
✔️ Work only with reputable journals and expert guidance
No responsible author can do without systematic analysis these days.

⁉️Why is it important to order right now?
Getting published in a reputable Scopus-indexed journal isn't something that can be done “quickly, in a month.”.
And that's exactly why, if you want to see results in 2026, you need to get started right now!
Conclusion
The December Scopus update clearly showed:
In today's scientific landscape, there are no longer any «safe havens.».
Even magazines that have been considered stable and «safe» for years are now subject to this exception.
Choosing a magazine on your own is increasingly becoming a risk that could cost you:
– lost indexation;
– a publication not taken into account during evaluation or defense;
– problems with grant applications;
– the loss of a year's work and the additional costs associated with a new publication.
Therefore, a systematic analysis of journals and publishers is not merely advice, but the only real guarantee of academic integrity.
