Preparing a dissertation for defense in 1.5 months: finishing a section, citing over 200 sources, and removing plagiarism and AI-generated content—all at the same time.
Dinara is a doctoral student in economics from Kazakhstan. In February 2026, she reached out to us in a situation familiar to many: her defense was just two months away, but her dissertation wasn’t ready yet.
At the time of the inquiry, the situation was as follows:
- Section 3 of the dissertation—is incomplete;
- Bibliography—more than 200 sources, not formatted according to the requirements;
- Plagiarism level — 30%;
- AI content level — 33%.
The first thing she wrote to us was: «I’m afraid we just won’t have enough time.”.
We made it.
After an initial assessment of the situation, it became clear that taking a step-by-step approach wasn't an option. There's no time.
We divided the project into three independent streams and launched everything at the same time.
- Writing Section 3—Our economics writer finalized the main text, drawing on the chapters that had already been completed and the overall logic of the work.
- Dinara's research advisor was actively involved: he provided prompt feedback and helped finalize the structure—which greatly sped up the process.
- They helped negotiate the contract and supported the prepayment process, which usually takes longer in government agencies.
- Citation formatting—a dedicated specialist took on the entire list of over 200 sources and formatted them according to a uniform standard.
- Reducing Plagiarism and AI — The technical editor worked on the text simultaneously: removing borrowed material and traces of AI-generated content while preserving the author’s intended meaning and academic style.
The project took 1.5 months.
The first two weeks were the most intense—three teams were working simultaneously, and Dinara stayed in touch and quickly approved the revisions. Sometime during the third week, she wrote, «It looks like we’re actually going to make it.»
What was done:
- Section 3 of the dissertation on economics has been completed—both in terms of structure and content—in accordance with the academic style and logic of the work.
- All 200+ references have been formatted according to the requirements.
- They helped negotiate the contract and supported the prepayment process, which usually takes longer in government agencies.
- The plagiarism level has been reduced from 30% to 9%.
- The AI content level has been reduced from 33% to 7%.
- All revisions have been approved by the research advisor and accepted without comment.
- The dissertation was submitted for review on time—without postponing the defense;
- All technical requirements have been met;
- Three tasks were completed simultaneously over the course of 1.5 months;
- Plagiarism has been reduced from 30% to 9%, and AI-generated content from 33% to 7%;
- The research advisor accepted the final draft without any further revisions.
