Before submitting your article, check the journal in Scopus and its current percentile. If your publication requires an impact factor, 35+ or 50+, compare it with the requirements for the relevant subject category and grade level. Pay special attention to any signs that a student might be at risk of being excluded.
Enter the journal title or ISSN into the free «Academy of Articles» service to get data on the percentile, quartile, and CiteScore.
What does this mean for authors?
Discontinuing the indexing of a journal does not mean that all previously indexed articles will be automatically removed. According to Elsevier's guidelines, such materials typically remain in the database. The "Journal change policy" status refers to changes in a publication—such as its title, owner, or editorial leadership—after which continued indexing is not guaranteed.
If the article has already been published, search for it in Scopus by title or DOI and check that the year, volume, and issue match the coverage period. If the manuscript is still under review, confirm the planned issue before making any further payments.
For the purposes of defense or certification, please check the requirements applicable to your publication separately: the required percentile, subject category, and the year for which the metric is considered. The indexing of an article and its compliance with the requirements of a specific procedure are two separate issues.
Conclusions
The journals removed from Scopus in the August update include three publications, two of which we had previously warned about. These examples illustrate why it is important to verify a journal before submitting an article.
However, the cutoff dates for these journals vary: 2023, 2025, and 2026. You should not rely solely on the list’s update date or the «Scopus» label on the journal’s website.
Check the current status, metrics, and content of the latest issues. This will help you identify risks before you spend time reviewing the content and pay for publication. You can compare the changes with A review of the journals removed in July 2026.
