Journals Removed from Scopus in July 2026

Article
Category: Excluded journals from Scopus
Date: 11.08.2026

More than 300 Kazakhstani scientists lost their publications. In a single journal. Without a single warning.

The database of the journal *Engineering, Technology and Applied Science Research* lists more than 300 papers by authors from Kazakhstan. Each of them underwent peer review, prepared an article, and paid for publication. And none of them received a single warning that the journal would be removed from Scopus.

In July 2026, this magazine was officially removed from the database. Along with it, 13 other publications were also removed.

Based on our observations, only among these 14 Journals Removed in July 2026 more 450 scientists from Kazakhstan have lost their publications, which no longer count toward their PhD defense, performance reviews, or the conferral of an academic title.

Since the beginning of 2026, Scopus has already removed Issue 51. Every time, without a single warning to the authors.

If you are currently choosing a journal to submit an article to, this information applies directly to you.

The Magazines We Warned About

In the section «Journals at Risk of Being Removed from Scopus,» we systematically analyze journals at high risk of exclusion. Among the journals included in the July update, three were from our list:

International Journal of Ecosystems and Ecology Science

Broken down into Issue No. 11: «Candidates for Removal from Scopus»

Veredas do Direito

Broken down into Issue No. 12: «Candidates for Removal from Scopus»

Journal of Daoist Studies

Broken down into Issue No. 15: «Candidates for Removal from Scopus»

📊 45 out of 53—and that's no coincidence

For 2024–2026 45 out of 53 magazines, which we had warned about in the «Candidates for Removal from Scopus» section, have been officially removed from the database. This is the highest figure among teams that monitor scientific publications.

Conclusions

The July Scopus update is not an anomaly. The database changes every month, and every update affects someone's publications.

More than 300 Kazakhstani authors in *Engineering, Technology and Applied Science Research*. More than 450 in total across 14 journals in the July Scopus update. None of them received advance warning.

What does this mean in practice:

  • An article submitted before the journal was discontinued may not be counted toward certification.
  • Publication in a delisted journal may serve as grounds for rejection during the dissertation defense.
  • Grants and academic titles tied to publications in Scopus are also at risk.

Our monitoring confirms: 45 out of 53 magazines, ...those we have identified as risky have been officially excluded. Reviewing the log before submission is not just a precaution. It is a mandatory requirement in 2026.

There are intermediaries on the market who do not verify a journal before submitting an article. They may suggest a journal that is already at risk, and you won’t find out until your article is rejected. At «Article Academy,» every journal is checked for its current status in Scopus, its percentile, and editorial risks before we recommend it to an author.

If you’re preparing to submit an article right now, don’t take a guess. Every journal on this list was once «in Scopus» as well. Authors who didn’t check in time have already lost their publications, money, and time.
